So if you have 2 tanks at 50%, you still have more firepower than one tank at 100%. And well, starsector has shields and flux, so the damage isn't even sustained. And rotating flux is way easier with small ships that are fast.I am no expert, but I can give you a few tips: the main feature of the Astral is the Recall Device. This allows your 6 fighter squads to cobtinually have coordinated strikes. The coordinated strike has some serious ship deleting capabilities.
